Being a designer with heritage from Barbados, it was a no-brainer to design a Bajan rum.

After conducting competitor research, it was very apparent that rums from Barbados had very similar, traditional, branding that featured browns and serif fonts making the market quite dull.

As a result of this, to stand out this new rum from Barbados needed to give an opportunity for the island to be viewed in a contemporary way without neglecting the traditions of the country.

The idea behind BIM RUM comes from portraying a sense of home.

The word Bim is what Bajan people refer to Barbados as and means “My home”.

Therefore, houses from Barbados have influenced much of the design thinking behind the brand.

Bajan homes have informed the brands assets such as colour and patterns.

The patterns take inspiration from the verandas found on houses in Barbados. The walls often have these concrete block squares that repeat.

The logotype makes use of the 3 letter words in the brand name. This also represents a trident motif which symbolises the broken trident found on the Barbados flag.

Colours were chosen based on the paint used to colour the homes in Barbados. Each colour is representative of a flavour.

The colours combine to make gradients that represent a caribbean sunrise/sunset.
